With the Carolina Panthers sacking Matt Rhule on Monday, the team could be a sellout before the deadline. Could the Denver Broncos trade for CMC?
Nobody in Broncos Country needs to explain why there are obvious ties between Christian McCaffrey and the team.
Many wanted the Broncos to take him in the 2017 draft, but they obviously didn’t.

On Monday, the Carolina Panthers fired former head coach Matt Rhule, prompting some NFL members to question whether or not the Panthers should be selling on the fence.
I really like the composition of the Panthers; They have a solid core of players and I don’t think they should be big sellers, but maybe I would personally recommend that they trade a piece or two.
Maybe one of those plays is a running back who has a big contract and has struggled to stay healthy the past two seasons.
What would be the pros and cons of trading for the 6th year player?
Pros and cons of trading for Christian McCaffrey for the Broncos
Pros
There are a few advantages. The Broncos would be able to effectively replace the ground game they lost when Javonte Williams went down with a torn cruciate ligament. The team will likely rely on Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray for the rest of the season, but McCaffrey is a better runner than the two. He could help keep the running game where it was when Williams was on the field.
He would also bring an incredible threat to the position. He had a career catchup rate of nearly 81% and a 1,000-yard receiving season. I bet if he wanted to, he could rightfully become a slot machine receiver and still have a great career in the NFL. In fact, the Broncos could use it like that if they wanted to.
Thing is, he could help get the running game started and give Russell Wilson another (very) reliable set of hands. It won’t be available until 2026 either. His cap is just under $9 million this season, so that’s not outrageous.
Cons
The disadvantages are obvious and outweigh the advantages. McCaffrey has only played 10 games between 2020 and 2021. His injury concerns for the position are significant and he is not someone who has shown the ability to stay on the pitch consistently. The Denver Broncos also have very little draft capital due to the Russell Wilson trade, so they would likely hit some or some roster players in the future.
CMC is talented enough to pick a legit starter and I’m not sure George Paton would even remotely agree with that. He would wear something the Broncos are already wearing and he has serious injury problems.
